Gold Glove Baseball Camp working in conjunction with,Home Run Baseball Camp Director, John McCarthy is actively involved in collecting used baseball equipment for Beisbol y Libros, a baseball-education outreach based in Dominican Republic city of Consuelo, a small town in the province of San Pedro do Marcoris.  Located 82 miles east of Santo Domingo, the majority of Consuelo’s 60,000 residents work in the nearby sugar plantations. Home to a rich baseball tradition, Consuelo has produced major leaguers Pepe Frias, Julio Franco, Alfredo Griffin, Sammy Sosa, Rafael Ramirez, and Rico Carty.

Beisbol y Libros provides baseball instruction for elementary aged children of the Consuelo public school system. Only children who demonstrate consistent school attendance may participate. Gold Glove Baseball Camp Director, Don Fontana, traveled to Consuelo during the week of  Feb.28-Mar. 4   to distribute gloves, baseballs, and t-shirts that had been collected during the previous year and to contribute to efforts of the Beisbol y Libros staff as they worked with the youth of the city. To donate used baseball equipment (no bats please) contact Gold Glove Baseball Camp at director@goldglovebc.com or (412) 318-0138.
